Just a few miles offshore the stream reaches depths of 600 feet. Travel a little further and the depths approach 2,000 Feet. These warm waters produce some of the finest offshore fishing in the world with cathes of Mahi-Mahi, the acrobatic Sailfish, Sordfish and Marlin or the high speed thrills that are delivered by rocket-like Wahoo and Kingfish. This is Islamorada deep sea fishing at it’s finest. Fishing methods include trolling, but mostly it’s live bait light tackle fishing. Situated some 15 miles offshore of Islamorada, and often smack in the middle of the Gulfstream lies the Islamorada hump. A large sea mound that rises to nearly 200-feet of the surface with the surrounding depth ranging from 500 to over 700 feet. The hump is rich with bait and game fish. The list of game fish caught on the hump includes Dolphin, Wahoo, Blackfin Tuna, huge Amberjack, Blue Marlin, Sailfish, White marlin and big sharks, chiefly Makos and Great whites. Deep dropping on the bottom, and you might catch Snowy Grouper, Queen Snapper and a variety of other bottom dwellers
